PLEASE NOTE: If you have the SKYPE Add on for Internet Explorer on your PC you may find it converts some of the chassis numbers etc into phone numbers (usually those starting with a zero - e.g. 06624933-44) - if you can see the previous range of chassis numbers as a grey button with telephone number (as below) then please be aware they ARE chassis numbers etc and NOT phone numbers so do not try to phone them!! It is better to turn off this add on when browsing this site (SEE BELOW).

Phone numbers on pages are shown as grey buttons.

How to turn off the add-on.

Click the Skype add-on icon on the Internet Explorer toolbar once to turn it off.

Click it again to turn it back on.

About These Pages

I have been interested in transport history for a long time and, in 1999, started collecting information about various transport undertakings that I had a particular interest in, initially for my own use. As my collection of notes began to grow I decided that they may be of interest to local historians and enthusiasts in general, and so began developing a website.
For many years these records have been bandied about the Internet on various sites but, finally, I have decided that they should be published on my own site, and, hopefully, this is where they will remain for the foreseeable future.

Operator Fleet Histories

This section contains brief histories of municipal and private undertakings and records of vehicles owned and operated by such undertakings, all information being compiled with reference to various sources. These are written in a 'local history' style and are intended to be brief summaries of the undertakings concerned and are not concise histories, which can be obtained elsewhere. There are only a limited number of histories available at present. This is an ongoing project and I hope to add more in due course as time permits.

General Histories

This section contains general histories about the development of various modes of road transport (e.g. horse bus, tram, trolleybus etc.). These are only intended to be summaries and are not concise histories.

Manufacturer Histories

Histories of UK chassis and body makers - now all just a memory! Once again these are summaries and not concise histories.

Pioneers

Short biographies of some of the pioneers of road transport, along with the pioneering companies and vehicles that improved the lot of the traveller.

You are free to use the notes contained within these pages as you wish, I waive any claim to copyright provided they are used for non-profit making purposes, however a link or reference back to this website would be appreciated.

PLEASE NOTE: Although I waive claim to copyright on any of the histories on this site if you use any material you cannot claim copyright yourself. Please do not copy a list off this site then alter it slightly and then claim copyright - you are not entitled to do this.

DUE TO OTHER COMMITMENTS THIS SITE IS NO LONGER MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS SO SOME OF THE FLEET LISTS MAY BE OUT-OF-DATE.
